A Winter Day
November 29, 2025
The centrepiece of Linden's Fall 2025 concert is Sarah Quartel's "A Winter Day", a five-movement work for choir, piano and cello. Featuring text from beloved Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery and poets Sara Teasdale and Melville Cane, Quartel's piece conjures the many moods of a Canadian winter.
Rounding out the program is a selection of choral works inspired by winter and the holiday season, including:
A Glimpse of Snow and Evergreen - Vijay Singh
Vesi väsyy lumen alle (Water under Snow is Weary) - Harri Wessman (based on a Finnish folk tune)
Night of Silence - Daniel Kantor
Angels We Have Heard on High - Arr. Dan Forrest
A Visit from St. Nicholas - Arr. Ward Swingle
Ding Dong! Merrily on High - Arr. Howard Cable
We welcome cellist Pam Highbough-Aloni and flautist Hanne Fair.
